Kawasaki has a Sales Service Bulletin available for 2009 Vulcan 1700's.  These are what the new heat shields and radiator shroud look like.

I have highlighted the news parts on a couple of pictures so you know what to look for.  The exhaust heat shield is much bigger at the top and has a distinct flare to it.  The flares purpose I suppose is to keep the heat from coming out to the rider's leg.  The shroud on top of the radiator I imagine is to do the same, keep the heat from rising up to the rider.  Look for yourself and you decide.
